Zoom and other video calling services have become some of our most-used apps during the past several months. They have served to connect us with friends and family that we are socially distancing from. While just talking on Zoom is nice, you can spice up your hangouts by playing virtual games, too! Here are a few game ideas for your next Virtual Game Night.
Charades
This classic game is one of the easiest ones to translate to video calls. You can even mute yourself so you abide by the no-talking rule! Come up with a list on your own or with your group of possible words to act out. You can also use this charades word generator or any other word generator.
Scavenger Hunt
Another classic game! Depending on how long you want it to be, compile a list of 10 or more items that people can find in their homes. Share the list with them via screen sharing, the chat function, or text/email. Set a timer for how long your friends have to collect the items and go! Get creative with what you put on the list! Fun ideas include baby photos, shot glasses, and specific clothing articles. (Anyone find yellow socks?)
Pictionary
Pictionary is a drawing game where it is actually more fun to play if you aren’t an artist! Divide your call up into groups and guess away! You can play on Zoom using the whiteboard in Screen Share. If you opt for this you can see Elite Daily’s instructions for this here. You can also play it the old fashioned way and simply hold up your drawing for your team to guess.
Skribbl.io
You can also play on a website called Skribbl.io. You get on the website, create your private room and then send the link so everyone can join. Start the game and each player will draw a word given to them. Skribbl.io doesn’t have teams, so whoever types in the correct guess first wins the most points. It is very entertaining to watch people try to draw using only their laptop trackpads.
Playingcards.io
Playingcards.io has a variety of different card games, checkers, and chess. You pick a game, create a room and share the link with your friends. There’s even a way to create your own custom game. This site is free, and everyone sees their own browser window. No laggy screen sharing here.
These games may be a good change of pace for those Zoom happy hours and family chats. Whether you choose to act, draw or find interesting items, these games are sure to bring some fun to these calls. Have a happy Halloween: Let the virtual games begin!
