If you’ve been eying APPower: A Guide to Mobile App Marketing Success, this may just be the preview that will tip you over the edge. Authors/app marketing gurus, Carson Barker and Cliff Haley, spoke with Jeff Rutherford of the APPetite podcast about their recent book.
Barker and Haley offer a few salient words of wisdom to app developers in this insightful interview. In response to Rutherford’s question on how to generate more app reviews, Haley notes, “[Pay] attention to what people are saying in the app review section … [that way,] if there are complaints, you’re addressing them in the open [and] you’re transparent. That can influence whether or not people leave a review … even if they’re not completely happy with your app at this time, if they understand it might get better, they might be more inclined to say, ‘Hey this app is great … I can’t wait to see what comes next.'”
Barker has a finger on the pulse of an ever-changing app market and gives suggestions for enhancing Store Review Optimization (SRO): “You have to sum up your app in one or two sentences. You have to make it creative and punchy, or else [customers will] move on to the next thing.” Barker’s comment on the need for a great app icon draws on the same idea of immediately attracting customers: “Your icon is pretty much your business card; it’s your handshake.”
