This Saturday, February 2nd is Groundhog Day. While the holiday is synonymous with the weather predictions of a burrowing woodland creature, some of us can’t help but think of the Bill Murray Classic, “Groundhog Day.” That’s why this week we thought we would share with you the top five free to download movie streaming apps. Not only are all five apps completely legal, but are also available on Andriod and iPhone.
Owned by Sony, Crackle has a vast selection of movies and TV series. One of the great things about Crackle, besides being free, is that no sign up or subscription is required. If that isn’t enough, the app supports multiple devices. The only drawback is that ads do play every ten minutes while you’re viewing. A fair tradeoff for a completely free and no subscription required app.
Looking for a movie selection a little off the beaten path? SnagFilms is for the more eclectic movie buffs, with a large selection of old films, classics, and documentaries. This app goes above and beyond and even has movies available from the African, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, and Bollywood film industries as well. As if SnagFilms has already outdone itself, it’s able to download movies on and offline as well.
This sleek interfaced app stands out from the others on this list. Yidio, while still providing a good selection of movies and tv series, has a unique search engine function allowing you to search for movies like a web browser. While the movie selection is not quite as mainstream, the B-listed choices and original series is impressive. You have the option to upgrade and if you don’t see a movie you are looking for, you can request it and you will be notified when it becomes available.
Looking for the latest released movies and series? Popcornflix is for you. With over 1,500 movies available, the app boasts a regularly updated collection and series of it’s own. Like some of the other apps out there, you can search by genres, release dates, and more. Popcornflix is another great no subscription needed way to access many different foreign films as well.
If you are a stickler for quality, Tubi is great; offering high quality sound, image, and streaming rate. While Tubi is free, you will need an account to stream their content and some ads do play. But whether you’re enjoying the Korean dramas or their “Not on Netflix” section from your phone or Apple TV, you will be impressed by their weekly updated movie selection and consistent diligence in improving their app.
While you don’t have to go and cancel your Netflix and Hulu subscriptions right away, these are some great apps for you to explore new films, series, documentaries, and more. Go ahead and butter up your popcorn, put your feet up, and enjoy your free movie streaming today.
