By now, you’ve probably heard of “content marketing.” But what is it exactly? A quick Wikipedia or Google search will tell you, according to the Content Marketing Institute:
Ok, so what does that look like? Well, the example that every content marketing article will give is the John Deere publication, “The Furrow” that was released in 1895. This was one of the first content marketing campaigns that just hits it out of the park. The Furrow wasn’t a John Deere catalog by any stretch of the imagination, but a publication geared towards farmers and specifically talking about current issues farmers struggle with on a local level and across the globe. It also comes with tips, other product suggestions, and obviously, some updates on John Deere.
This approach of using storytelling and not just pushing the product, you’re proving to potential customers that you are knowledgable. This helps build your brand and their trust. When clients and customers trust and rely on your brand and company, they are more apt to spend their hard-earned money on your services and products.
Other examples besides snail-mailing out a publication (John Deere has since upgraded to electronic versions of The Furrow, by the way) there are plenty of examples of content marketing out there. E-newsletters, e-books, vlogs and blogs, events, movies, quizzes, even apps are all examples of content marketing!
